Dr. Goffar joined the UIW Physical Therapy Faculty in July 2014 upon retirement from the U.S. Army after 25 years of service as a Combat Arms Officer and Physical Therapist. He is the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and a tenured Professor. Dr Goffar's previous positions include Associate Professor and Director of Clinical Education for the U.S. Army-Baylor University Doctoral Program in Physical Therapy; Consultant for Physical Therapy for the Commander of the Europe Army Medical Command; and Chief of Outpatient Physical Therapy at Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio, Texas. He received his AB in Biology from Ripon College in 1989; an MPT from Baylor University in 1996; a PhD in Education from the University of Hawai`i in 2005; a DPT from Baylor University in 2008; and an MS in Strategic Studies from the U.S. Army War College in 2011. He is a Board Certified Clinical Specialist in Orthopedics.
Dr Goffar has been a clinician manager of physical therapy clinics in Hawai`i, The Republic of Korea, Germany, Iraq and Texas. He is a strong advocate of staff development and process improvement achieving unprecedented productivity and patient satisfaction. While in Germany, Dr Goffar represented the United States in efforts to build coalition partner capacity to care for citizens suffering traumatic lower and upper extremity amputation in the Republic of Georgia.
As an active researcher, Dr Goffar has been published in PTJ, JOSPT, Clinical Biomechanics, Archives of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, the Journal of Strength and Conditioning Research, and the Journal of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons. His research focus has been on prediction and prevention of musculoskeletal injury as well as foot type and plantar pressure analysis. As a member of a prolific research team, Dr Goffar has received more than $2.8 Million in extramural funding.
Dr Goffar, has been married to his wife, Kim, for 25+ years and they have two sons, Joseph and Nicholas.
